Future generations will find Donald Trump's presidency the most shocking aspect of contemporary America, according to a recent poll. The survey, conducted by JL Partners for the Daily Mail, found that for Democrats and independents, Trump's presence in the White House, particularly as a convicted felon elected to a second non-consecutive term, would be more astonishing than advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and robots.
Trump, who was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in May 2024, went on to win the presidency for a second time that November. The poll suggests that Democrats are particularly surprised by the election of a felon. Democrats also pointed to the deeply divided political climate as a significant shock for future Americans.
Independents echoed concerns about political division but also suggested that the general populace of this era might be more surprising to those in 2276. They also noted that the state of the world and the prevalence of robots could bemuse future generations.
Conversely, Republican voters identified "people" as the most shocking element of this era, though they did not specifically name Trump. GOP voters also indicated that advancements in AI and technology would surprise those living in 2276. While Republican respondents acknowledged that the political climate would shock future Americans, their concerns focused more on immigration and political division rather than Trump himself.
The poll surveyed 1,059 registered voters from June 24-26, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
