Northumbria Police Constable Jess Turnbull, 19, died after suffering catastrophic injuries when she was struck by a vehicle in Cramlington, Northumberland, on June 8. An inquest heard that PC Turnbull and a colleague had been deployed to the scene of a previous crash involving a Land Rover Freelander and a Ford Explorer on the A189 Spine Road to implement a road closure.

The officers arrived at the scene at 11:26 p.m. Eight minutes later, while PC Turnbull was outside the stationary police car, a black Mercedes collided with it, resulting in her injuries. She passed away in hospital two days later. The inquest is ongoing.
