Gwent Police are investigating a death threat that was allegedly made against Reform politician Cai Parry-Jones and his family. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, and police have stated it is not considered politically motivated.
The individual involved in the incident received a community resolution, a non-criminal record outcome typically used for minor offenses or antisocial behavior. It involves an informal agreement between the parties involved.
The security of members of the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, has been a recurring topic of discussion. Huw Irranca-Davies, the presiding officer (Llywydd), stated that a comprehensive security framework is in place to support members. This framework includes security measures on the Senedd estate, tailored advice, incident reporting, and security provisions for members' homes and constituency offices. Additionally, Senedd members have access to a dedicated social media monitoring service managed by Senedd security.
Irranca-Davies highlighted the close cooperation between Senedd security and police, which involves on-site presence and intelligence sharing. Efforts are also coordinated with security partners across Wales and the United Kingdom. Security planning undergoes an annual review, with ongoing risk assessments conducted by Senedd security, police, and UK-wide security partners.
