Derbyshire police have dropped an investigation into an alleged assault connected to the arrest of England bowler Brydon Carse. Carse, 31, was previously removed from second Test consideration following an incident at a Derby nightclub on August 22.

Police had been looking into allegations of assault, but The Guardian reports that the investigation has now concluded without charges. It remains uncertain whether Carse will face disciplinary action from England cricket authorities, as a cricket regulator is conducting its own investigation.

Carse, who was part of England's squad for the initial Tests against Pakistan and was a leading wicket-taker during the Ashes defeat in Australia, had been celebrating a County Championship victory with Durham teammates. He was initially released without charge.

A social media video showed Carse surrounded by four police officers outside the nightclub, with fellow Durham players Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts visible in the background.

The development follows England's Test captain Joe Root's decision to abolish the team's curfew, implemented after the Ashes defeat in January, stating his confidence in the players' ability to act responsibly.

Previously, police had stated that Carse was "de-arrested… having agreed to leave the area."

The England and Wales Cricket Board has declined to comment on the matter.
