A pilot died after a small aircraft crashed on Connetts Farm in Devon, near Dunkeswell Airfield. The pilot, believed to be a woman in her 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency services.
Nick Stevens, founder of Connetts Farm, confirmed the incident occurred on his property. Stevens stated he was working nearby and observed what he initially thought was a "serious fire" on the farm, only to discover it was a light aircraft upon arrival. Emergency services had already been notified when he reached the location.
Road closures were implemented in the vicinity of the crash site. The incident was reported around 11:00 AM, according to a witness on Marcus Road, south of the airfield, who reported seeing "a lot of black smoke" to the east.
Dunkeswell Aerodrome, a former Royal Air Force site situated in the Blackdown Hills area of Devon, is close to the border with Somerset. Its website indicates it was originally constructed as a U.S. naval base during World War Two and is described as the highest licensed airfield in the UK.
