A Philadelphia woman utilized stage combat training from her arts education to fend off a masked man who chased her and several other residents on a Wednesday morning. Jameka Wilson, a 25-year-old actress, was on her way to a workout class when the individual, described by police as wearing a "Chucky"-style mask, began to pursue her.
Wilson told Fox News Digital that after being chased for a short distance, she decided to turn and confront her attacker. She described the man as appearing surprised by her action, noting that he "opened up all of the lines of attack" he could have made. Wilson then kicked the man in the chest.
Wilson, who studied stage combat at the University of the Arts, stated that the training focuses on understanding the consequences of violence and ensuring the safety of scene partners. She believes this experience was instrumental in her ability to defend herself.
Police have identified 22-year-old Zymire Hughes as the suspect. An arrest warrant has been issued, and authorities believe Hughes may have left the state. According to police, Hughes was also seen near City Hall that morning, where he allegedly threatened a woman, asking if she was "ready to die" while chasing her and others.
Surveillance footage showed Hughes approaching multiple individuals. He was also reportedly refused service at a Dunkin' due to his mask, displaying erratic behavior before leaving the establishment. Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith indicated that the suspect accosted a significant number of people, many of whom have not yet come forward.
