Pete Davidson Attributes Fatherhood to Sobriety, Career Shifts
The comedian reflects on how becoming a father has reshaped his life, priorities, and professional choices.
Pete Davidson stated that fatherhood has profoundly altered his life, influencing his decision to remain sober and shaping his approach to acting roles. The former "Saturday Night Live" star discussed these changes in a conversation with Charlamagne Tha God for Interview Magazine.
"Every decision is different," Davidson, 32, remarked, explaining that becoming a father put his personal life and career into a new perspective. He welcomed his daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, with model Elsie Hewitt in December 2025. The couple later separated in May 2026.
Davidson expressed a desire for his daughter to be proud of both her parents. "I want my daughter to be proud of both her parents," he said. "When she starts going to school and having friends, I want her to be proud of where she’s from, and I want her to be comfortable and feel safe."
The comedian also noted that fatherhood has reinforced his commitment to sobriety. "I’m sober now, which is awesome, but it brought into focus that I will do whatever it takes to be here for my daughter," he stated. This commitment influences his career decisions, as he now considers the duration of his absence from his daughter, the location of a project, and whether the role is worth the time away.
"It’s put things into perspective," Davidson reflected. "This s–t we do doesn’t matter that much, really."
He also discussed his upcoming role in David Leitch’s thriller, "How to Rob a Bank," where he plays a young father battling lung cancer with a "Robin Hood–type moral compass." Davidson found the character relatable, stating, "I definitely would do the same thing for my family. I didn’t feel like my character was doing anything wrong."
"How to Rob a Bank" is slated for release on November 13.
