An oceanfront townhouse in Palm Beach, previously owned by ex-Marvel CEO Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter, has sold for $17 million. The property's sale price reflects a notable fluctuation from its highest asking price, which was influenced by political developments in New York.
The townhouse at 2 Sloans Curve Drive, located a short distance from Mar-a-Lago, was initially listed for $21 million eight months after Perlmutter and his wife, Laura, purchased it for $10 million in April 2023. Over the subsequent year, the asking price saw several adjustments, reaching as high as $24.95 million following the election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City mayor. The price was later reduced to $19.9 million before its final sale.
Listing broker Margit Brandt of Premier Estate Properties noted that the South Florida market, particularly Palm Beach, is experiencing a surge in activity. Brandt attributes this strength to wealthy individuals, or "1-percenters," moving from New York due to factors such as the pied-à-terre tax and from California to avoid a proposed billionaires' tax. She stated that the election of Mamdani in New York and the loss of Spencer Pratt in Los Angeles were significant factors prompting clients to relocate.
"Palm Beach is having what I believe will be its best year yet, even surpassing the covid activity of 2021 to 2022," Brandt said. "All of the places our clients have previously lived are going one direction and Florida is going another."
Perlmutter, an Israeli-born veteran of the Six-Day War, is a significant donor to political campaigns and a philanthropist who has contributed over $50 million to cancer research. He also served as an unofficial advisor to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The renovated 1981-built townhouse features five bedrooms and 5.5 baths within a gated community. It includes a chef's kitchen with double-height ceilings, a formal living room with a skylight, a bar area with custom built-ins, and ocean views from main rooms. A spiral staircase leads to the primary bedroom suite, which offers a dressing area, two spa-like bathrooms, and a terrace overlooking the Atlantic. Community amenities include private beach access, tennis courts, a gym, a yoga studio, a conference room, a pool, and cabanas.
The buyer, who paid in cash, was represented by Ronnie Garcia, also of Premier Estate Properties.
