Blogger Perez Hilton, hospitalized since August 4 following a livestream that appeared to show him harming himself, has reportedly not received any messages of support from the celebrity friends he cultivated over years of tabloid reporting. A family friend told the Daily Mail that those close to Hilton are unsure how to inform him of the lack of outreach, fearing it would be "devastating."
Hilton, born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., 48, is currently receiving inpatient care at an undisclosed facility under Florida's Baker Act. His family has stated that he is physically recovering from injuries sustained prior to his hospitalization, which required extensive stitching and will result in scarring.
During his time in the hospital, Hilton has reportedly asked about messages from his famous acquaintances. Sources close to him indicate that celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Adele, with whom he once shared close bonds, along with figures like Britney Spears and Khloe Kardashian, whom he had previously feuded with and later reconciled, have not publicly or privately reached out. Spencer Pratt, who named Hilton godfather to his son, has also reportedly remained silent.
One notable public interaction involved "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki, who initially posted a message of support on X directly to Hilton. However, Padalecki later deleted the post and apologized, stating he was unaware of Hilton's history as a celebrity gossip blogger.
Meanwhile, Hilton's family is reportedly shielding him from public criticism. This includes comments from Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Alec Baldwin. Baldwin, who was frequently featured on Hilton's gossip blog, posted on X after his hospitalization, "He was a piece of s**t but I wish him well." Hilton's family friend expressed frustration with such remarks, deeming them unnecessary digs.
Family members have also suggested that Hilton's mental health breakdown may have been influenced by sporadic adherence to his prescribed medications. According to the Daily Mail, he sometimes had stockpiles of unused medication and may have attempted to catch up on doses before the incident.
While Hilton is in recovery, his family is managing his finances and his celebrity gossip website, PerezHilton.com. His finances are described as disorganized, with a lack of clear records regarding income and bills. The website, which had seen a temporary traffic increase after the livestream, has resumed publishing content, albeit with a significantly toned-down and less critical tone, according to the family friend. Hilton's sister is reportedly leading the effort to produce stories to maintain the site as a source of income.
Reports indicate that Hilton had recently signed a deal with a TV production company for a show about cyberbullying, but had not yet been paid, and his role was still being finalized. His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, filed for temporary legal custody of his three children on August 7 in Miami family court.
Amidst his recovery, Hilton is reportedly focused on his faith, reading a Bible and praying. He does not have access to his phone or other devices during his treatment.
