Fans on a Beatles-themed tour in Liverpool received an unexpected surprise when they encountered Paul McCartney, who was seen FaceTiming his bandmate Ringo Starr.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the Magical Mystery Tour bus, which visits sites significant to the band members, stopped at a red traffic light. Passengers spotted McCartney, 84, in a car and saw him on a FaceTime call with Starr. McCartney waved to the fans from an open car window and offered a peace sign.
Neil Morton, the bus driver, described the encounter as "surreal," telling the BBC that McCartney appeared delighted to see the busload of fans.
McCartney was in Liverpool to present an award at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), which he co-founded. He presented an honor to fellow Liverpudlian actor Stephen Graham.
Recently, Starr, 86, celebrated his birthday with his wife Barbara Bach. Bach, a former Bond Girl, has a long career in modeling and acting, including a role in the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me."
The Beatles, though not having performed together in 50 years, are the subject of a series of biopics planned for release in 2028, directed by Sam Mendes. The films will feature actors portraying the band members, with Barry Keoghan cast as Ringo Starr and Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney.
McCartney and Starr last collaborated musically when Starr appeared on McCartney's new album, contributing to the song "Home to Us." McCartney noted it was the first time Starr had recorded a duet with a member of The Beatles.
