Panasonic has initiated a recall of over 11,000 electric toaster ovens sold through major online retailers, including Amazon and Costco, due to concerns over inadequate power cord insulation that could pose fire and shock risks.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on July 16 for Panasonic Electric Toaster Ovens, Model No. NB-G200. The model number is located on a label on the back of the appliance. Approximately 11,480 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 2,184 sold in Canada.
These stainless steel ovens, which retailed for about $170, feature digital temperature settings, a timer, six pre-set cooking menus, and a temperature control knob. They were available for purchase online from October 2024 through April 2026.
The recall stems from fears that the power cord insulation may be insufficient, specifically that a fiberglass sleeve does not properly cover the cord. This defect presents a risk of fire and electric shock. While no fires or injuries have been reported, the CPSC noted four incidents of tripped circuit breakers or outlets and one report of a toaster oven ceasing to function.
Panasonic urges customers who purchased these toaster ovens to stop using them immediately. The manufacturer is offering a full refund. Consumers can contact Panasonic at 1-888-943-2391 or visit a dedicated recall website for more information. A return kit will be provided to eligible customers free of charge to send the product back.
This recall is one of several recent safety notices involving kitchen appliances. In May, over 113,000 electric kettles sold at Costco were recalled due to potential handle detachment, which led to at least one reported burn injury. In June, hundreds of thousands of space heaters sold at Costco and other retailers were recalled after reports of overheating and fires. Earlier this year, a warning was issued regarding oven doors shattering, with hundreds of complaints received by the CPSC between January 2025 and March 2026, including reports of injuries.
