A 20-year-old trainee plumber, Edward Pearce, known as Bunty, died after the van he was in broke down on an A-road and was struck by another vehicle. His death has led to the donation of six of his organs, saving the lives of seven people.
Pearce had already signed up as an organ donor. Sixteen years prior to his death, at the age of four, he had donated bone marrow to his older brother, William, who was suffering from leukemia. William died from the disease two years after receiving the transplant.
His family described Edward as a much-loved son, family member, and friend who lived with boundless energy. They stated that his days were filled with purpose, laughter, and adventure, and he brought warmth, energy, and kindness to everyone around him. They find comfort in the love he shared and the lasting impact he had on many lives.
Edward's van had broken down on the A27 near Pevensey when the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. The driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old man from Bexhill, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. He has since been released on bail.
Police are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage from drivers who passed the stranded van or were in the area at the time. Information can be reported to Sussex Police, quoting Operation Wickham.
