A 20-year-old man, identified as Jesse Hadchiti, has been arrested and charged with a series of serious offenses, including allegedly running a criminal empire from his home. Police arrested Hadchiti at his residence in Essendon, a northwestern suburb of Melbourne, on Tuesday morning.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the property around 8:30 a.m. before charging Hadchiti with multiple offenses. The charges include extortion with threats to kill, kidnapping, recruiting a child to engage in criminal activity, and false imprisonment. He also faces charges of aggravated home invasion with an offensive weapon, common law assault, and incitement to commit an indictable offense.

Hadchiti appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday evening and was remanded in custody. His application for a suppression order to prevent the publication of his likeness was denied by Magistrate Zubin Menon. He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 20 for a committal mention, which he will attend via audio-visual link from custody.

Police allege Hadchiti operated as a high-ranking representative within a crime syndicate connected to Kazem Hamad, who was arrested earlier this year in the Middle East. Detective Inspector Graham Banks stated that Hadchiti was responsible for tasking crimes using encrypted applications on behalf of the syndicate. Banks noted that intelligence suggests Hadchiti is a significant part of the crime group despite his young age, and that the matters for which he is being interviewed are likely only a fraction of his alleged activities.

Hadchiti reportedly used the handle 'Commbank' on encrypted applications, a name he allegedly chose due to the volume of wealth he handled within the organization. He is also said to have described himself as an "ordinary kid who goes to the gym and runs an empire from his home." Police believe he had approximately 2,000 'taskers' at his disposal, though this number may be inflated.

According to police, Hadchiti was involved in a kidnapping incident in Malvern, a southeastern suburb of Melbourne, on April 14. In this incident, several men allegedly assaulted a man in his home before forcing him into a car. The victim was later dropped off at a hospital, and investigators believe he was the wrong target. Four men have since been charged in connection with this incident.

Hadchiti is also allegedly responsible for organizing an attempted aggravated home invasion in Doncaster on April 28. Furthermore, he is believed to be behind a series of arson attacks that prompted a major police investigation known as Operation Eclipse, launched on April 27. Operation Eclipse targets serious and organized crime syndicates believed to be involved in offenses linked to hospitality venues and seeks to determine the motives behind these attacks.

Detective Inspector Banks described Hadchiti's arrest as the most significant made since the inception of Operation Eclipse. Police anticipate further arrests, including that of a 23-year-old man wanted in connection with the attempted murder of Sam 'The Punisher' Abdulrahim. This individual is also believed to be a high-ranking member of the syndicate and is reportedly residing in the Middle East.
