Tampa resident and OnlyFans creator Sophie Rain expressed relief after Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback, who advocated for a 50% "Sin Tax" on adult entertainment earnings, was unsuccessful in the state's Tuesday primary. Fishback garnered 10.5% of the vote, finishing third in a field of 11 candidates.

Fishback, a 31-year-old former investor, had positioned the tax as a measure to "disincentivize and deter" the adult entertainment industry. He specifically targeted creators like Rain, a 23-year-old who stated she has earned over $100 million from OnlyFans since 2023. Fishback claimed Rain would have owed $42 million in taxes under his proposal.

"I never believed voters were going to support singling out women and punishing them for doing completely legal work, so yes, I’m very happy to be keeping my money," Rain told The Post. She described the tax proposal as "the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard" and noted that she already pays significant taxes on her earnings.

Rain, who also co-founded the Bop House, a Florida-based collective of adult content creators, stated her objection was not to paying taxes but to a politician targeting specific careers he personally disapproved of. "If you want to raise teachers’ salaries or pay for kids’ lunches, I’m all for that -- but come up with a serious policy instead of using women and content creators as a political punching bag," she said.

Republican Rep. Byron Donalds secured the gubernatorial nomination with 47.8% of the vote. Lt. Gov. Jay Collins came in second with 25.2%.

Fishback did not immediately respond to requests for comment. ![GOP candidate James Fishback speaking at a press conference, with "Fishback for Governor" signs visible in the background.]( "GOP candidate James Fishback speaking at a press conference, with "Fishback for Governor" signs visible in the background.")
