Ohio Man Escapes Handcuffs, Attacks Deputies in Courthouse Attempted Escape

A recent sentencing hearing in Columbiana County, Ohio, took a dramatic turn when a newly sentenced inmate, Timothy J. Reaggle, allegedly broke free from his handcuffs, assaulted two deputies, and attempted to flee the courthouse. The incident, captured on video, shows Reaggle, 20, of Wellsville, attacking deputies shortly after learning he would serve a year in prison.

Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin reported that both deputies sustained broken bones during the altercation but have since been released from the hospital. The released video footage shows a deputy escorting Reaggle down a hallway when Reaggle suddenly slips out of his handcuffs and allegedly strikes the deputy before running.

As Reaggle fled down the hallway, he reportedly crashed into another deputy, knocking them to the ground. He then proceeded toward the courthouse exit, where the video shows him sliding down the steps before being apprehended with a Taser. Other individuals are seen in the video rushing to assist the injured deputies.

Reaggle had been sentenced to one year in prison on charges including aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, failure to comply, and two misdemeanor counts of assault. He is currently being held at the Columbiana County Jail and is awaiting transport to state prison. Additional charges, including assault on a police officer and felony escape, are expected in connection with the courthouse incident.
