A father in Grove City, Ohio, who shot the alleged rapist of his 11-year-old daughter in July is awaiting sentencing. The incident occurred after the mother discovered a video on their daughter's phone depicting the assault.
According to prosecutors, Malik Chandler lured Diego Montoya Gonzalez to his home by pretending to be his daughter on TikTok. Chandler told investigators his initial intention was to assault Gonzalez and hold him until police arrived. However, Chandler stated he believed Gonzalez was reaching for a gun, prompting Chandler to retrieve a firearm from the counter and fire twice.
Merkel, a former federal prosecutor, suggested in comments to the New York Post that Chandler should receive minimal or no jail time. The legal implications for Chandler's actions, including the circumstances under which the shooting occurred, are expected to be a central focus during his sentencing.
