A plain-clothes Cambridgeshire Police officer has been commended for his swift action in apprehending a fugitive cyclist in a crowded city center. CCTV operators initially spotted the wanted man and alerted officers via radio on Tuesday.
Dramatic footage captures the moment the officer, without hesitation, executed a rugby-style tackle on the fleeing cyclist, bringing him down onto the pavement. The man was knocked off his bike in the forceful maneuver. Shortly after, an officer in high-visibility clothing arrived to assist in the arrest.
The fugitive has since been charged with multiple offenses, including theft, assault, burglary, failing to appear in court, and public order offenses. He is scheduled to appear in court.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police described the incident as "a great example of how our teams work together to keep the city safe." The public response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many online viewers praising the officer's skill and effectiveness, referring to him as a "proper copper" and a practitioner of "old fashioned policing."
