A New York City Police Department officer has been arrested on charges of official misconduct, attempted disseminating indecent materials to minors, and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from an alleged incident involving an undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old girl.

Christopher Torres Garcia, who has been with the NYPD for four years and is assigned to the 72nd Precinct in Brooklyn, reportedly met the undercover officer on August 5 while on duty. Following this initial contact, they exchanged phone numbers. According to a criminal complaint, the two later engaged in a video call on August 18.

During this video call, prosecutors stated that Garcia allegedly asked the decoy to expose herself after she mentioned she was showering. Garcia was taken into custody on Tuesday morning in the Bronx while off-duty. He has since been suspended without pay, according to the NYPD.

Garcia was arraigned on Wednesday in Brooklyn Criminal Court and is scheduled to return to court on December 1. His attorney declined to comment on the case.
