Gustavo Gordillo, a prominent figure in New York City's leftist political circles and co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) chapter, resides in a Brooklyn brownstone valued at approximately $1.5 million. Property records indicate the home was purchased by his parents through their company, Chucuito LLC.

Gordillo, 38, has publicly advocated for policies such as taxing the rich, redistributing land from landowners to the landless, and implementing a rent freeze. He has also stated that landlords should not be entitled to double-digit returns on investment. Recently, his family's property was included on a list compiled by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, which flagged potentially non-primary residences owned by wealthy individuals for a controversial city tax on luxury second homes.

Chucuito LLC acquired the property on Decatur Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in April 2019 for $935,000. Gordillo's father confirmed to the New York Post that the corporation purchased the home and subsequently handled renovations. His parents, Peruvian immigrants who founded an engineering and construction firm, also own two homes in Florida valued at $3 million each.

Gordillo's father stated that both Gustavo Gordillo and another son live in the Brooklyn home. He also mentioned renting a property on Manhattan's Lower East Side to Gordillo in 2016 and 2019 through the same LLC, at a cost of $2,600 per month. Gordillo graduated from Yale University in 2010 and later pursued a master's degree there.

His family's Brooklyn residence will not be subject to the city's new pied-à-terre tax, as that surcharge applies to one-, two-, and three-family homes valued at over $5 million. The Department of Finance noted that the vast majority of properties on the list would not be subject to the surcharge.

Councilwoman Vickie Paladino criticized the DSA and Gordillo in response to the news, referring to the organization as comprised of "lazy, entitled, spoiled rich kids" and accusing Gordillo of hypocrisy for advocating socialist revolution while living in a multi-million dollar home purchased by his parents. Gordillo has not publicly commented on the attention his family's property has received.
