The administration of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has released a searchable database detailing property owners who may be subject to the state's new pied-à-terre tax. The Department of Finance uploaded the comprehensive list, which reportedly includes all unoccupied, non-primary residences in the city valued at more than $1 million, along with the full names and addresses of their owners.
The release of the list follows a public announcement by Mayor Mamdani, who had previously warned wealthy residents via social media to expect notification letters. "The best city in the world deserves the best parks, libraries, and schools in the world. That’s only possible when we all pay our fair share," Mamdani stated.
The pied-à-terre tax, enacted by Governor Kathy Hochul and state Democrats, targets second homes within the city. While Mayor Mamdani has supported the policy, critics have expressed concerns that it could negatively impact property values.
