A New York City couple returned from a vacation on July 24 to find an unidentified woman inside their Long Island City apartment. The residents, Bill and Yelim Kim, stated that their home security system alerted them to a presence in their home, prompting them to check the live camera feed. The footage revealed a woman moving about the apartment, consuming a drink, and resting on their couch.
Bill Kim expressed disbelief at the situation, questioning what the intruder might have done had they not been alerted by the security camera. The footage also showed the woman removing the camera from a bookshelf after noticing it.
The Kims contacted a neighbor, who went to the apartment and prompted the woman to leave. Upon exiting, she offered a simple apology before fleeing. By the time the New York Police Department arrived, she had departed.
According to building management, the woman had posed as a dogwalker for the Kims and was granted entry by a doorman. The doorman in question has since been removed from the property, and security measures are reportedly being enhanced. These improved measures appeared to be effective, as the woman attempted to re-enter the building two days later but was denied access.
The NYPD is investigating the incident as a burglary. The identity of the woman has not been released, and she has not been charged with any crimes. The couple reported feeling traumatized by the experience.
