New South Wales Premier Chris Minns recently offered a glimpse into his past, recounting his clubbing days and a "pretty wild" bucks week during an appearance on 2DayFM's Breakfast with Nath and Emma. Minns, 46, spoke about his youth in the southern Sydney area, mentioning local spots like Northies, Carmen's, the Oatley Pub, and Oatley RSL.
He also made a humorous admission about the iconic Vinyl Room nightclub in Gymea, joking that he has "vague memories" and has "tried to forget it as part of a 12-step program." Minns emphasized that while he has been there, he often tries "not to admit it."
When asked about staying out past midnight outside of work, the Premier revealed it was for a friend's bucks week, adding that he preferred to keep the details private. "You know what? It’s probably best I keep it to myself," Minns stated.
Minns also took the opportunity to highlight the significance of Sydney's nightlife to the economy. "We're not a country town. This is a big international city," he said, noting that the sector contributes $110 billion to the New South Wales economy and supports approximately 1.3 million people who work night shifts. "They're night owls. They want to work between 6pm and 6am and it contributes $110 billion - with a B - to the New South Wales economy."
This candid interview adds to Minns' reputation for a down-to-earth demeanor, particularly during radio appearances. In March 2023, he garnered attention for his guitar-playing skills during a radio interview, performing a riff from AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck,' which led to a joking endorsement from one of the radio hosts. He also clarified that he does not vape.
