Talks between the UK government and Northern Ireland's devolved administration in Stormont are ongoing, with an expectation that a revised funding offer will be presented soon. While no formal deadline has been set, sources indicate that an agreement may need to be reached before the UK government publishes its budget on October 28.

Stormont's Education Minister, Paul Givan, stated that he is confident a revised funding offer will be made but cautioned that it might not be enough to resolve the ongoing budget deadlock. He suggested that any new proposal would still fall short of what is needed.

Alliance assembly member Kate Nicholl emphasized her party's position, urging the government to make institutional reform a condition of any budget agreement. Ulster Unionist leader Jon Burrows confirmed that "significant" sums of money are under discussion but declined to provide an exact figure, stating an aspiration to agree a budget properly and soon.

Meanwhile, SDLP MLA Matthew O'Toole, who leads the Opposition at Stormont, highlighted the detrimental impact of the prolonged budget impasse on public services in Northern Ireland, noting that "with every day that passes without a budget, public services are suffering."
