More than two months after Brooke Hanlon, a 35-year-old psychotherapist, was found dead in her Chester, New Jersey home, the homicide investigation remains tight-lipped, prompting speculation and frustration.
Private investigator Carl DeFazio, a former Marine and retired NYPD officer, stated that the case is unlike others he has encountered. "It’s unique. I’ve never seen anything like this before," DeFazio told Fox News Digital. He suggested that the prolonged silence from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, which is leading the investigation, might be an effort to preserve the integrity of the case and avoid compromising any ongoing developments. "I always look at what they’re not telling you," DeFazio said. "They always, especially in a homicide case, hold one or two things back that only the perp would know."
Brooke Hanlon was discovered on June 6 with multiple stab wounds inside her home on Pottersville Road. Her husband, Conor Hanlon, made the initial 911 call reporting his wife unresponsive. Responding officers pronounced her dead at the scene, and the death was subsequently classified as suspicious. The couple's 12-month-old baby was present in the home at the time of the incident but was unharmed, according to sources.
DeFazio emphasized the critical nature of the initial days of any homicide investigation. He noted that investigators often dissect 911 audio and the presence of family members at the scene to establish a timeline. "I always start at the beginning — the crime scene — and work my way out. A lot of investigators will go in there with a suspect and try to make the facts fit their suspect. That’s the wrong way to do it," he explained. Investigators, he added, must meticulously examine every detail, including interviewing neighbors, securing the crime scene, collecting DNA evidence, searching for a murder weapon, and analyzing any signs of struggle or defensive wounds. "I’d really love to see the ME's [medical examiner's] report."
Neighbors have expressed lingering unease, with some stating they remain on edge. DeFazio also pointed out that in complex cases, investigators often audit every detail from day one, including financial matters like life insurance and personal relationships, which can explain why information is withheld as authorities piece together a timeline.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has not yet revealed any suspects or persons of interest in Hanlon's death. Fox News Digital has made repeated attempts to reach Conor Hanlon for comment. He has not been charged with any crime or wrongdoing.
