Legendary former Alabama head football coach Nick Saban wrote a letter to a Florida court supporting the "exceptional character" of Terrion Arnold, a former Detroit Lions cornerback arrested on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

Arnold, a 2024 first-round pick, appeared in Hillsborough County court where Judge Christopher Sabella set his bond at $1 million. Arnold was also instructed not to contact six co-defendants, surrender his passport, and remain under home confinement in Tallahassee. The Detroit Lions subsequently released Arnold.

Saban's letter, dated June 26, states that he has known Arnold for over six years and has consistently witnessed his "exceptional character" and "genuine care" for others off the field. Saban noted that Arnold treated his family and staff with "respect, humility, and kindness" and never gave him reason to question his conduct or integrity.

"I first met Terrion when he joined my program in 2021," Saban wrote. "From the beginning, he stood out not only because of his athletic ability, but because of who he was off the field. Based on my experiences with Terrion, I’ve always believed he leads with genuine care for the people around him."

Saban added that he had welcomed Arnold into his home and around his family, consistently observing respectful and kind behavior. "In all the time I have known him, he never once gave me cause to question his conduct, his integrity, or his respect for others," Saban stated. "I don’t ever recall him being involved in any behavior that would be described as aggressive or irresponsible."

Concluding his letter, Saban acknowledged that he was not overly familiar with the specific charges Arnold faces but respectfully asked the court to consider his personal experience with Arnold's character and history. The letter was submitted amid the ongoing legal proceedings and Arnold's release from the Lions organization.
