San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa returned to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday after a four-year absence, posting a single emoji that appeared to acknowledge the departure of ESPN analyst Ryan Clark.

Bosa, who had not posted original content on X since November 12, 2022, aside from three reposts, reacted to news of Clark being laid off from ESPN. His post was a quote-tweet of a report about Clark's departure, accompanied by a simple emoji.

This interaction follows a past criticism from Clark regarding Bosa's decision to wear a "Make America Great Again" hat after a game prior to the 2024 election. At the time, Clark stated on his podcast that wearing the hat signified taking a "side of division" in a sport meant to unite.

"Who you supported in 2008, 2012 is nowhere near as polarizing as who you support today," Clark had said, referring to then-candidate Donald Trump. "[Trump] has clearly picked a side, [and] standing next to him gives the impression that you have to. Which means you stand in direct opposition to the majority of your teammates."

Bosa was fined $11,255 for wearing the hat but maintained his stance, stating it was "well worth it" and that his position on the matter would not change.

Clark was among several individuals who parted ways with ESPN, a list that reportedly included Bart Scott, Tom Pelissero, Karl Ravech, and Cam Newton. Bosa's recent social media activity marks a notable break from his previously sparse engagement on the platform.
