NHS Tayside is conducting an investigation into an alleged data breach involving the medical records of a nine-year-old girl who died in Dundee. The child, identified as Minnie Merriman from West Yorkshire, was found seriously injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath and later died at Ninewells Hospital.
A 35-year-old man, known to the girl, has been arrested and appeared in court charged with her murder. The alleged data breach occurred in a clinical area where staff access patient information.
"As a matter of governance, any data protection breach would be recorded and investigated by NHS Tayside and, where appropriate, reported to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)," a spokesperson for NHS Tayside stated. The health board declined to comment further on individual staffing matters.
