A vascular surgeon in the UK National Health Service (NHS) has been suspended for nine months following an investigation into his social media activity. Dr. Muhammad Abdelmoez Abdelmoghny Khalil was found to have impaired fitness to practice due to a series of "virulently anti-Semitic" posts.

The disciplinary action came after UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) submitted a complaint to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). Among the uncovered material were images of an Israeli flag crossed out with the words "Death to Israel," and a quotation attributed to former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser calling for Israel's "complete eradication."

In one post on his Instagram account, Dr. Khalil questioned the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre, accusing Israel and Western media of fabricating reports to justify actions in Gaza. He further blamed "Zionists" when his account was restricted.

In one of his posts, Dr Khalil denied Hamas carried out the massacre of October 7, 2023

Another post contained an explicit anti-Jewish message stating, "We, the Arabs, are going to wipe you completely from the face of the earth! You can shove your Torah, your Talmud, your Moses and all your prophets up your stinky a**."

Dr. Khalil, who qualified from Cairo University in 2001, previously worked at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as Guy's and St Thomas, UCLH, the Royal Free, and Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

UKLFI stated that the content demonstrated extreme hostility towards Israelis and Jews, raising concerns about patient safety. A spokesperson for the organization commented, "Doctors occupy positions of enormous trust. Jewish and Israeli patients must be able to enter a hospital without wondering whether the doctor responsible for their care harbours this degree of hostility towards them or their community."

The MPTS hearing concluded on September 9, with the suspension set to take effect on October 13, unless Dr. Khalil appeals within 28 days. The General Medical Council (GMC) confirmed the suspension.
