Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold appeared via video from jail for his first court appearance Thursday after being arrested on kidnapping charges. Arnold, 23, appeared stone-faced from the Falkenburg Road Jail in Tampa, Florida, wearing a green jail vest.
Prosecutors stated at the hearing that they want Arnold to remain incarcerated until his trial. He faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. If convicted on the most serious charges, he could face life in prison.
Arnold is accused of masterminding a plot to kidnap, beat, and rob three individuals he believed had stolen over $250,000 from him and others at an Airbnb in Largo, Florida. According to authorities, the victims, which included Arnold's personal driver, were lured to an apartment in February. There, Arnold and six associates allegedly assaulted them at gunpoint, pistol-whipped them, and stole their belongings.
Arnold's manager has stated that the player "categorically denies any involvement" in the alleged conspiracy.
Arnold is scheduled to return to court on Monday, when arguments will be made regarding his bail and whether he should remain in custody.
