A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of his mother in their shared Bronx apartment, authorities said. Bob Johnny Guzman Soto was arrested Tuesday on West 170th Street and Edward L. Grant Highway.

Law enforcement sources stated that a passerby recognized Guzman Soto from surveillance footage the New York Police Department had released to the media, leading to his apprehension. The footage showed Guzman Soto wheeling a suitcase in a building lobby, which police confirmed was the last known sighting of him.

Police responded to a 911 call at the apartment on Grand Concourse near East 168th Street around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered Josefa Soto De Carmen, 57, unresponsive and covered in blood, with visible trauma to her head and torso. EMS workers pronounced her dead at the scene. Guzman Soto had reportedly fled the apartment after the incident.

Guzman Soto has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities have stated he has no prior arrests. The specific weapon used in the assault remains unclear. His arraignment was pending.
