Orsen Reyes, 23, has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison for a brutal December 2024 attack on a 48-year-old man on a Hell's Kitchen subway platform. Prosecutors detailed that Reyes repeatedly stomped on the victim's head and pulled his legs toward the train tracks during the incident.

Reyes, a Washington Heights resident, attacked the unnamed victim on the northbound C platform of a Manhattan station. He was apprehended by police at the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station shortly after the assault, with his hands and sneakers covered in blood.

A jury found Reyes, a first-time offender, guilty of all charges, including attempted murder. He remained in custody awaiting sentencing.

During the sentencing, Reyes declined an offer to adjourn proceedings to speak with the Department of Probation, responding, "I don't know... It doesn't matter."

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition following the attack. Prosecutors noted that the victim, who is undocumented, expressed fear and refused to cooperate with their investigation, stating, "Their fear of participating was real."

Reyes will also serve five years of probation after his release from prison. The attack occurred not long after a separate incident where a 52-year-old man was stabbed in the arm at the Myrtle-Wyckoff L train station in Brooklyn/Queens.
