A man accused of killing his parents in a suspected murder-suicide in Madison, New York, had a history of arrests and was recently bailed out of jail by the victims, according to authorities.
Justin Sislo, 35, is suspected of shooting and killing his parents, Steve Sislo, 76, and Donna Walker-Sislo, 72, at their home on McCormick Road on Friday. Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff's Office discovered the three deceased individuals inside the residence. Investigators noted that the couple had recently posted $10,000 bail for their son after his July 29 arrest on domestic violence charges, which included two dozen charges, strangulation, and endangering an incompetent person.
The couple had bailed their son out of jail twice in one month, according to the sheriff's office. Court records indicate Sislo faced charges in Cayuga County in June related to strangulation and endangering an incompetent individual. During his most recent arrest, authorities found several firearms at his home, despite two existing protective orders that prohibited him from possessing them.
Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood expressed frustration with the circumstances, stating that he wished the judge had set no bail and kept Sislo in custody. He condemned the fact that Sislo was out of jail, given his violent history and the protective orders in place.
Steve Sislo was described as a prominent businessman and philanthropist involved in local organizations, including the Capitol Theatre and the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce, according to the Rome Daily Sentinel.
This case has drawn comparisons to other incidents where individuals with violent histories have been released from custody, raising questions about bail reform and judicial discretion. The Madison County Sheriff's Office confirmed the findings to Fox News Digital.
