Vinod Khosla, who was approved this week as the new majority owner of the Seattle Seahawks, acknowledged during his introductory press conference that he remains a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I also happened to come to this country in ’76 when the Steelers were winning the Super Bowl, so actually I was originally and still am a big Steelers fan," Khosla stated Wednesday. "Also, little known fact, but I still watch all the Steelers games, too."
Khosla emigrated to the United States from India in 1976, a period when the Steelers were a dominant force in the NFL, winning four Super Bowls between 1974 and 1979. He attended an MBA program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh during that era.
His wife, Neeru Khosla, noted his long-standing interest in sports and football, stating he was the driving force behind the decision to invest in an NFL franchise. "He’s been a big fan of sports and in particular football, so he’s wanted forever to get involved in actually strategizing," she said. "So he’s the one who actually really pushed us into doing this. He’s worked really hard so I’m very proud of him."
Khosla, 71, is a prominent figure in the tech and venture capital world, co-founding Sun Microsystems and amassing a significant fortune. He previously became a non-controlling, limited partner in the San Francisco 49ers in May 2025.
Looking ahead to his role with the Seahawks, Khosla expressed a long-term vision focused on sustained success. "The task ahead is actually pretty simple — keep the winning streak alive, get another Super Bowl," he said. "That simple. In general, our approach is generally going to be long-termed focused. That’s our inclination always. So, keep winning, take a long-term approach and learn a lot. We don’t know enough."
He also indicated a willingness to learn from others within the league. "The other owners have been incredibly welcoming and willing to teach us, and so we’ll learn a lot. We’ll learn a lot from management and see what they are recommending. So we’ll just be in learning mode for quite some time."
The Seahawks are scheduled to open their season on September 9th against the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl 2026.
