Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., has won her primary race, advancing to face Republican Lily Tang Williams in the general election for a western New Hampshire House seat. The district, which leans Democratic, stretches across the western half of the state.
Goodlander, the wife of former Biden National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, won her first term in 2024, succeeding the retiring Rep. Ann Kuster. The district has been held by Democrats since 2013.
In the primary, Goodlander faced New Hampshire State Rep. Paige Beauchemin, who ran from the left. Beauchemin argued that Goodlander had not been sufficiently progressive or effective during her first term.
Meanwhile, Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., is vacating his House seat to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H. This shift in representation means the political landscape in New Hampshire will see significant changes regardless of the November outcomes.
