NBC has significantly upgraded security at the "Today" show studios located at 30 Rockefeller Center in response to recent frightening incidents that left staffers on edge. The enhanced measures are designed to provide a more secure environment for the program's employees.
Staffers expressed relief following the implementation of these new, "fortress-like" security protocols. One insider described the changes as "much-needed" and noted that while the process took longer than anticipated, the current security setup offers a greater sense of safety.
Another source indicated that "Today" show personnel are readily complying with the new procedures, viewing them not as an inconvenience but as a necessary enhancement to their workplace safety.
Recent Security Concerns
The push for reinforced security comes after two significant events. In February, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, was kidnapped from her home in Arizona. She has not yet been found. This incident understandably heightened concerns among "Today" show staff.
A more direct security breach occurred on July 16, when an individual identified as Andrew Truelove allegedly bypassed security and entered the area near the "Today" studios. According to reports, Truelove confronted co-anchor Craig Melvin, inquiring about Al Roker's whereabouts and using a racial slur against Melvin. Security was alerted, and Truelove was subsequently arrested. A security guard involved in the incident was reportedly terminated following the breach.
Reps for "Today" have declined to comment on the security enhancements or the specific incidents.
