NBA player Kyle Kuzma has publicly criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of "cosplaying" as president and being more interested in creating "content" than in governing.
Mamdani recently posted a video addressing his campaign promise to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. While stating his administration was exploring legal avenues, Mamdani acknowledged he lacked the authority to detain the Israeli leader during his upcoming visit to New York for the UN General Assembly in September. The International Criminal Court, which the United States does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Mamdani's remarks followed President Trump's assertion that Netanyahu "will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America."
Kuzma, a forward for the Milwaukee Bucks, shared his thoughts on the social media platform X. He expressed concern over a generation he believes is rewarded more for the appearance of action than for substantive work. "A mayor playing president. A founder playing operator. A content creator playing one-on-one thinking he’s a pro. A 25yr old with a ring light playing economist. Everyone auditioning. Nobody building," Kuzma stated, characterizing Mamdani's approach as seeking reward for "looking like you did the thing" rather than for the accomplishment itself.
Kuzma urged followers to "Don't fall for distractions."
Mamdani's video statement was made in response to Israel's actions in Gaza. The mayor referred to Netanyahu as a "war criminal" in his social media post, which included a clip of himself speaking.
Kuzma, who has a history of engaging in public discourse on social and political matters, was attending a gala in Cannes, France, in May 2026. He has been a vocal figure, often sharing opinions on current events and societal trends via social media.
