Singer and actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte, known for her role in "Neighbours," and her fiancée, Pip Loth, have ignited speculation about imminent wedding plans. The couple marked the one-year anniversary of their engagement on Sunday with a heartfelt social media post, hinting that a wedding may be on the horizon this year. Loth shared a tribute on Instagram, recounting Bassingthwaighte's surprise proposal during a trip to Niagara Falls.
"This past year has been filled with joy, laughter, wins, celebrations, many hours on FaceTime, moving boxes and so, so much love," Loth wrote. "You are my person. I am so very grateful. Maybe this year, we will plan a wedding."
Bassingthwaighte responded to the post, expressing her gratitude and love for Loth. "Aw baby! You make me a better person every day! Your generosity of spirit, kind heart and pure love shines bright. I am so lucky you said 'yes'! Let's do this life together," she commented.
This public display of commitment comes after Bassingthwaighte previously expressed a strong aversion to marriage. In her memoir, "Love Like This," the 50-year-old star admitted that her divorce from ex-husband Cameron McGlinchey had left her disillusioned with the institution of marriage. She wrote about the lingering pain from their separation after 12 years together and her subsequent stance against tying the knot again.
"I was never going to get married again. After Cam and I separated, I became increasingly disillusioned with the idea," Bassingthwaighte stated in her memoir. She had adopted a firm position, famously stating, "F*** the marriage. F*** the house. F*** the white picket fence. Keep the kids and the dog, obviously."
However, Bassingthwaighte's perspective began to shift following conversations with Loth. Loth reportedly pointed out that it wasn't until 2017 that marriage was legally possible for them in Australia, a remark that resonated with Bassingthwaighte. This realization, coupled with understanding Loth's view of marriage as a symbol of being seen and chosen, rather than conformity, prompted a reevaluation.
"The more I listened to Pip the more I realised that for them, marriage wasn't about conformity; it was about being seen and chosen in a world that had for so long told them they weren't allowed to be," Bassingthwaighte explained.
The turning point led Bassingthwaighte to plan a proposal. She orchestrated an elaborate proposal in New York for her 50th birthday, presenting Loth with a custom-designed ring. Loth accepted her proposal, a moment that Bassingthwaighte later shared with fans, stating, "Spoiler: they said yes!"
Bassingthwaighte, who shares daughter Harper, 16, and son Hendrix, 12, with her ex-husband, has now publicly embraced the idea of marriage with Loth, suggesting a wedding celebration may occur in the near future.
