Former Member of Parliament Nadine Dorries has shared her approach to maintaining weight loss during periods that typically pose a challenge, such as summer holidays and social events. Dorries, who previously lost over two and a half stone using the weight-loss drug Mounjaro, described her plan to leverage a "micro-dose" of the medication to navigate upcoming events and a period of home renovation.

Dorries detailed that after stopping Mounjaro injections in October of the previous year, she aimed to maintain her reduced weight of 8st 12lb through willpower alone. However, the approach of summer, marked by numerous social engagements including weddings, parties, and holidays, coupled with a chaotic home renovation that disrupted her routine and eating habits, led her to reassess. She noted that her confidence had significantly improved following her initial weight loss, allowing her to wear a bikini at age 68.

She described a period of falling back into old habits, frequenting coffee shops and pubs, and regaining some of the lost weight, which nudged her BMI back into the overweight category. This realization prompted her to seek a strategy to manage her weight without completely foregoing social activities.

The solution, as described by Dorries, came from a friend who had successfully maintained her own weight loss on a reduced dose of Mounjaro. Inspired by this, Dorries consulted her doctor, who agreed to prescribe a low dose of the medication given Dorries's return to the overweight category on the BMI scale. She began her first low-dose injection before a family holiday, finding it effective in managing temptations associated with travel and social dining.

Dorries expressed a belief that weight-management tools like Mounjaro should be more accessible for individuals looking to address minor weight increases. She contrasted the process for obtaining weight-loss medication with the over-the-counter availability of Viagra, suggesting a disparity in how different medical needs are met. She stated that her current plan aims to prevent larger weight issues and associated health risks, such as pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and fatty liver deposits, which she has experienced in the past. Dorries anticipates this "Mounjaro summer" will help her achieve her goal of reaching 8st 7lb by October.
