Polish authorities are investigating an unidentified object that crashed in a field in southeastern Poland, creating a crater approximately 33 feet wide. The incident occurred on Thursday as Russia launched a significant wave of air strikes targeting Ukraine, including attacks on Kyiv and Lviv.

Poland's armed forces detected an unidentified object moving westward within its airspace. The object was observed at 3:40 a.m. and disappeared from radar shortly after. A military helicopter was dispatched to the object's last known location and identified a probable crash site in an undeveloped area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin province.

Local police in Biłgoraj county reported hearing a loud bang and subsequently discovered the crater and scattered debris in a field about 1.2 miles from the nearest buildings. The discovery followed Russian missile strikes in western Ukraine that killed at least 13 people. Sirens were activated in Lublin to alert residents to the Russian attacks on Ukraine.

NATO warplanes were scrambled during the extensive Russian assault on Ukraine. The Polish incident occurred against the backdrop of heightened tensions and ongoing military activity in the region.
