Police have launched an urgent search for Gary Anderson, 29, a convicted murderer who failed to return to Maghaberry Prison following a day release on Monday. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has directly appealed to Anderson to surrender himself and has cautioned the public against approaching him.

Anderson was serving a 15-year sentence for the 2023 conviction of murdering Karol Kelly, a father of five. Kelly died on March 4, 2018, in Londonderry after being stabbed multiple times during an altercation. Gary Anderson and his brother, Sean Anderson, were both found guilty of Kelly's killing.

Anderson is described as being approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a slim build and brown hair. The PSNI urges anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact them immediately on 101, referencing case number 555 of 14/09/26. Officers are actively working to locate Anderson.
