Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative and Reform UK politician. Officers were called to her home on Dartmoor in Devon at approximately 11:40 BST on Thursday by the ambulance service. Widdecombe, 78, was found deceased at the property with serious injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson stated, "This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe at this difficult time." Police confirmed they are searching for a white male suspect believed to be responsible for her death. Further details are expected to be released by the police on Friday.
An initial statement released by Widdecombe's agent announcing her death on Friday morning did not specify the circumstances surrounding her passing. Her agent declined to provide further comment when contacted by the BBC.
