Mother Warns of Explicit Song in Popular Halloween Decoration

A mother has issued an urgent warning to other parents regarding a popular Halloween decoration, the Jabberin' Jack pumpkin, after discovering its songs contain explicit lyrics unsuitable for children. The mother, who goes by @glow.up.between.naps on TikTok, shared her concerns in a viral video, urging others to listen carefully to the toy's audio before purchasing it for their children.

Jabberin' Jack is described as a 12-inch plastic Jack-o'-lantern, available at major retailers, that projects an animated face and plays songs and stories for 80 minutes. While its initial songs are about trick-or-treating and Halloween themes, the concern arises from a particular ballad that the mother claims becomes increasingly suggestive. Lyrics such as "Do I look mesmerizing in the light? this villainous facade is just because I’m shy," and "Come closer, I have a kiss for you, and it tastes like pumpkin pie," are followed by lines that have raised particular alarm: "I’ll fill you full of fright. Guide you with the darkest deeds — And spoil you with my roasted pumpkin seeds."

Social media users have echoed the sentiment that these lyrics contain undeniable innuendos inappropriate for children. The mother noted in a follow-up video that the problematic song is the third track in the toy's playlist and cannot be skipped, making it easy for parents to miss if not actively supervising. She explained that her own son would frequently restart the toy, preventing it from reaching the song in question.

According to comments on the original video, the decoration was purchased from QVC. The product description on the QVC website mentions the toy has "three character themes: Spooky, Traditional, and Funny, plus bonus animated scenes." However, some reviews have also pointed out the suggestive nature of the content. One reviewer, Kim9918, wrote on QVC's listing that the toy "isn’t geared toward children and the jokes are very lame. Even his songs could be cute and fun for kids but they are not."

Jabberin' Jack is manufactured by Mindscope and is sold at retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Home Depot. Mindscope's website describes Jabberin' Jack as a "seasonal decorative item and is not a toy." However, the description also states it "automatically lights up and talks when trick-or-treaters walk by," a feature that typically targets children.
