Christine Wonsley, the mother of Nolan Wells, shared a poignant message on Facebook commemorating what would have been her son's 19th birthday. Nolan Wells was found deceased weeks prior near Horn Island, off the coast of Mississippi, following a holiday weekend boating excursion with friends.
"Today you are 19 Nono! There are so many things we want to say but we will keep it simple. As we sit here and reflect on what an amazing kiddo you grew up to be, we can’t help but to feel blessed, honored, proud, but most of all thankful," Wonsley posted on Wednesday, accompanied by photographs of her son.
She continued, "Although you are no longer physically here with us, we will always celebrate you and the legacy you have left for us to protect. You have taught us so much about life and how everyday is a blessing and how we have to do better at just living in the moment."
Wonsley expressed gratitude for the joy and happiness her son brought into their lives, calling him her "angel." She stated that raising him was an "absolute joy and honor" and that he would be "missed every second of everyday and you will never be forgotten our sweet sonshine." She also requested that negative comments be withheld.
Nolan Wells, described as a student-athlete, was discovered in the water near Horn Island. The discovery occurred days after he had traveled to the location with friends to celebrate the Fourth of July.
