A lavish Lake Como wedding in June 2025, where Stefano Cremasco Cicero was walked down the aisle by his mother, Isabel Cicero, stands in stark contrast to the events that led to her death in his Miami apartment just over a year later. Stefano, 36, has been arrested for second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of his mother.
Police were called to Stefano's 47th-floor apartment around 5 a.m. on Friday after a food delivery driver reported that Stefano, who appeared to be covered in blood, asked her to call 911. According to an affidavit obtained by the Miami Herald, Stefano then led officers to his apartment, where they discovered Isabel Cicero on the floor. She was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m. suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Stefano, a manager at a steakhouse in Coconut Grove, told police he was defending himself, according to the affidavit. It remains unclear what precipitated the fatal incident. Isabel, who resides in Mexico, had been staying with her son at the time of her death, his wife told police.
Surveillance footage and key fob records showed Stefano and his mother entering an elevator together and leaving the building around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hours later, around 4:25 a.m., Stefano was seen on camera entering an elevator alone, wearing bloody clothing and carrying a knife. He exited the elevator, dropped the knife, picked it up again, and then entered another elevator, according to the affidavit. He was later seen exiting the building and then re-entering around 4:40 a.m., before interacting with the delivery driver in the lobby.
Officers obtained a warrant to search the residence and found several blood-covered kitchen knives, two bloodstained white shirts, a broken wine bottle, and broken glass.Stefano, who is of Argentine descent, has an active U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer, the court heard.
Stefano's wife, who was in France at the time of the incident, informed police that she and Stefano had lived in the apartment since July 2024. She also stated that Stefano and his mother did not have a close relationship following her divorce from Stefano's father. She was unaware of any mental illnesses her husband might have had but noted he had been stressed about the opening of his new restaurant.
Stefano appeared in court on Saturday for a bond hearing, where he did not enter a plea. He was seen wearing a green anti-suicide smock and handcuffs. Stefano is scheduled for a pre-trial detention hearing on Tuesday.
