Host of "Dirty Jobs" and founder of mikeroweWORKS, Mike Rowe, stated that a review of American history and the functioning of other nations can explain why socialism has repeatedly been rejected in the United States. Speaking around the nation's 250th anniversary, Rowe suggested that those who express a lack of pride in the U.S. might benefit from understanding the country's origins and global comparisons.

"Nobody wants a lecture or a sermon or a history lesson, but it's hard to appreciate who and what we are today unless you really remember who and what we were two-hundred-and-fifty-one years ago (in 1775) -- back when the American Dream was really just a dream," Rowe said. He noted that the constant stream of negative news can lead to short-term judgments, but the nation's founding provides a broader historical context. Rowe described the Declaration of Independence as the Founders signing their own "death warrant" in pursuit of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," which evolved into the American reality realized after the 1783 Treaty of Paris.

"It [became reality] in 1783 when we signed the Treaty of Paris… We're living in the American reality. And it's not perfect. It will always be a work in progress – but to look at the country and say, ‘ah, I'm not that impressed’, I would suggest maybe visit some other countries and look back at our own history and reimagine your worldview," Rowe advised.

Rowe likened the resurgence of socialist political ideas to a cyclical phenomenon. "History is a wheel" that turns, bringing once-disfavored ideas back into prominence before they fade again as people experience their consequences firsthand, he explained. "Personally, I rack my brain to think of all the instances where socialism paid off. I got nothing, man."

When asked for his views on political matters, Rowe expressed reluctance to offer advice, stating he has "got enough celebrities and enough public figures with enough opinions on telling both parties what to do." He emphasized that his focus remains on his work with mikeroweWORKS and BuildFreedom, organizations dedicated to promoting work ethic and in-demand skills, and are "so aggressively uninterested in your politics."

Addressing concerns about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on skilled trades, Rowe indicated he wouldn't bet against innovators like Elon Musk. While acknowledging the public's unease with AI, he pointed to the significant investments being made in its development. Rowe observed that Americans often develop suspicion towards new technologies and industries before eventually relying on them, expressing confidence in the nation's democratic process and innovative spirit to navigate future challenges.
