Michelle Obama was seen dancing and socializing at an event in Martha's Vineyard on Wednesday, appearing without her husband, former President Barack Obama. The former First Lady, 62, attended an event hosted by The Vineyard Icon Foundation at Norman's restaurant in Oak Bluffs.
Obama was seen dancing, including to the song "Wobble," and embracing attendees in footage shared on Instagram by the foundation. She wore a white tank top with an open back and denim shorts, complemented by oversized aviator sunglasses. She appeared to be in good spirits during the solo outing.
Her appearance comes amid ongoing speculation about her marriage to Barack Obama. Recent reports have highlighted remarks made by the former President in interviews. In a conversation with The New Yorker, Barack Obama spoke of "genuine tension" in their household, noting Michelle's desire for him to reduce public duties to spend more time with her. He also questioned in a separate interview with People whether their partnership had been equal, suggesting he may have benefited more from it.
Michelle Obama, however, has publicly spoken about her husband's dedication and her pride in his public service. In response to his remarks, she praised his ability to "show up" and reflected on how he broadened her own perspective and provided the courage to pursue opportunities beyond her initial career path. She described him as her "ballast."
The family was together in June for the opening of The Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. During her speech at the event, Michelle Obama expressed her continued awe of her husband and commended his optimism, courage, and integrity.
The Vineyard Icon Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on highlighting individuals who consider Martha's Vineyard a special place and aim to make an impact. The foundation's founder, Erin Goldson, noted that the Obamas reflect this mission. The foundation hosted its first annual Vineyard Icon Awards last year, which was attended by various public figures.
