Actor Michael Sheen has stated that Wales should be consulted on whether it wants to continue using the title Prince of Wales. Sheen, who is set to portray Owain Glyndwr, the last Welsh-born Prince of Wales, in an upcoming play, expressed his view ahead of his performance.
Glyndwr is a significant figure in Welsh history, yet his story was not widely known to all Welsh citizens until adulthood, according to actor Rakie Ayola, who grew up in Cardiff. "Welsh history is now a compulsory part of the Curriculum for Wales," Ayola noted.
Sheen's comments come as he prepares to embody Glyndwr on stage. The play, "Owain & Henry," also stars Ayola, marking a reunion of the two actors after 40 years. The production is being staged at the Wales Millennium Centre from November 5 to November 28. Graeme Farrow, creative director at the Wales Millennium Centre, described the play as ambitious and a worthwhile risk despite increased production costs and financial risks. He also noted a sensational and near-sold-out response to the show.
