The New York Mets have traded left-handed reliever Brooks Raley to the Philadelphia Phillies, marking another significant move in their pre-deadline fire sale. The deal, confirmed ahead of Monday's 6 p.m. trade deadline, sends Raley to one of the Mets' National League East rivals.
In return for the 38-year-old pitcher, the Mets acquired right-handed pitcher Luke Gabrysh and outfielder John Spikerman, both of whom were playing at the High-A level within Philadelphia's system. Raley had been a consistent performer for the Mets this season, posting a 1.96 earned run average across 45 appearances.
This transaction follows earlier trades by the Mets, who have also dealt away starter Freddy Peralta and reliever Huascar Brazoban as the team appears to be rebuilding. The Mets currently hold a 47-66 record and are in last place in the NL East.
The Phillies, meanwhile, are actively bolstering their roster as they strive to secure a wild-card spot in the National League. With a 59-53 record, Philadelphia is in a tight race for playoff contention. Earlier on Monday, the Phillies also acquired Luis Arraez from the San Francisco Giants, with plans to play him at first base and shift Bryce Harper to right field.
