Mets Send Eight Prospects to Arizona Fall League

The New York Mets will send eight minor league prospects to the Arizona Fall League, a competition that runs through October and November. The league provides an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience, particularly those returning from injuries.

Among the notable participants is Bruin Agbayani, son of former player Benny Agbayani. Bruin was acquired in the A.J. Minter trade and is an infielder who played only three games with Low-A St. Lucie due to a shoulder injury. Infielder Boston Baro, who also faced a shoulder injury that significantly impacted his 2026 season, and first baseman Cole Mathis are also included.

Calvin Ziegler, a 2021 second-round pick, is perhaps the most intriguing prospect in the AFL. Ziegler has demonstrated significant potential, with 103 strikeouts in 67 minor league innings, but injuries have hampered his progress, including Tommy John surgery in 2024. He returned to the mound mid-season as a reliever, showing promise in his recent outings with High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Lambert, who generated buzz in Mets camp for his velocity, will also participate after dealing with injuries this season. Other pitchers heading to the AFL include righties Irving Cota, Brendan Girton, and Peyton Prescott.

In other team news, infielder Christian Cairo was claimed off waivers from the Phillies and has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Last season in Triple-A, the 25-year-old Cairo posted a .676 OPS with four home runs and 25 stolen bases in 128 games.
