Two wildfires, the Bug Fire and the Fred Mountain Fire, have merged near the California-Nevada border, creating a massive blaze that has scorched over 44,000 acres. The combined inferno is being fueled by high temperatures, dry vegetation, and gusty winds, leading to explosive growth.

Firefighters are working to establish containment lines around the northern, eastern, and southern perimeters of the fire. Resources from the Nevada National Guard and military police have been deployed to assist federal crews and firefighters from Las Vegas and California.

The fire, believed to be human-caused, has resulted in new evacuation orders near Winnemucca Ranch Road. Officials are still assessing the extent of damage to homes, with several reported destroyed. Two individuals, including one firefighter, sustained injuries that have since been treated. Containment of the blaze is currently at 4%.

The Bug Fire is burning in Lassen and Sierra counties, straddling the California-Nevada state line. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire's ignition is ongoing.
